Terms:

 

Pre-Hawk Computer: 

Any computer purchased prior to the implementation of the Hawk PC program, both Windows &MAC

 

Hawk PC: 

Any computer purchased through the ITS Hawk PC program and MACs purchased after June ‘99

 

Non-Hawk Computer:

Any computer purchased outside the ITS Hawk PC Program after June ‘99, excluding MACs.

 

Minimum Computer Requirements:

Specifications ITS will use when evaluating possibility of service, upgrades, & installs.

 

Peripherals:

A computer component/device that is not part of the essential computer (ie the memory & microprocessor), such as a printer, mouse, keyboard, monitor, external Zip drive, digital camera, PDA, or scanner.  It can also be internal, such as CD/CDR/CDRW-ROM drive, DVD drive or internal modem.

 

RAM:

Random Access Memory - Memory available to programs.   Information for programs is stored here temporarily and is removed when the computer is powered off. 

 

### Mhz:

Abbreviation for Megahertz. It is the speed of the microprocessor.  A microprocessor that runs at 300 Mhz executes 300 million cycles per second.  Each computer instruction requires a fixed number of cycles.

 

HDD:

Hard disk drive.  Storage space.  This is how much information can be stored by the computer.  Each program loaded, files saved, operating system, and drivers take up space on the harddrive.
